Title: BIODEGRADABLE ORGANIC CARBON CHANGING DURING WATER TREATMENT

Author: I. Kozyatnyk, L. Savchyna, N. Klymenko

Year: 2009

Publisher: European Water Resources Association (EWRA)

Description:

A biodegradable character of the organic carbon is an important feature affecting water grade in the distributive systems of water supply. The paper studies content of the biodegradable organic carbon in a few water types (river, artesian, tap and model ones) and its variation in the water treatment process by means of different methods. It is shown that neither the Dnieper River water after its coagulation, settling, filtration nor tap water do not meet the requirements as to its biological stability. There is not any biodegradable carbon in water only after its aftertreatment using the carbonic filter and disinfection with ultraviolet rays.
