In this study, the performances of Biological Granular Activated Carbon (BGAC) bio-adsorption and Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) adsorption in terms of secondary treatment wastewater reuse were investigated with real sewage effluent (RSE) of Maturation Pond M13, belong to the Binh Hung Hoa aerated lagoon wastewater treatment plant, Vietnam. The main aims of this study are to verify and compare the efficiency of secondary treatment wastewater reuse by GAC (adsorption) and acclimatized BGAC (bio-adsorption). The results indicated that the performance of bio-adsorption was significantly better than that of adsorption in all cases, showing the practical use of BGAC in filtration process. The most significance was observed at a real SE with a hydraulic loading v =
1m3/m2.h, having 100% of N-NH4 removal and 89% of N-NO2 removal by using BGAC, respectively. In addition, although the compositions and properties of SE always change but the BGAC filtration system operates still stable and don’t be shock and the COD removal efficiency is maintained stable over 30%.
