Description:

Public awareness programs are a key factor in order to provide direct positive impact on end users of research projects. Thus, in frame of the SMART Project (Sustainable Water Management in the Lower Jordan Rift Valley)
training/dissemination activities focused on capacity building programs for primary schools in the research area were conducted. The paper aims to assess the results of the pilot training denominated Teaching Unit Water Fun, conducted in November 2008 in Ramallah, Palestine in a primary school for a group of 21 students between 10 and 11 years old. Also it is summarised, the principal results for the training for trainers organized for a group of 22 participants, teachers from Palestinian primary schools and Palestinian water administration authorities are discussed. Furthermore, the paper looks at the fundamental challenges to enhance the program at a national scale incorporating it into the official curriculum and evaluating its local impact in more effective and equitable use and
allocation of water resources.
